Understanding Permit Requirements Wherever you plan to build, securing the proper permits is essential. At the very least, you’ll need a Zoning Permit (sometimes called a “Land Use” Permit). This confirms that your planned structure complies with local zoning regulations. Depending on your location, a Building Permit may also be required. We recommend speaking directly with your local officials to determine the specific requirements for your project.
To make the process smoother, we provide detailed construction drawings and specifications at no additional cost. These documents are released after finalizing the agreement for your building. If an Engineered Seal is required, we can provide it for $750.
Steps to Obtain Your Permit:
- Start Early – Many clients begin the permit process shortly after placing their building order. It’s never too early to get started!
- Contact Your Local Authorities – Reach out to your municipality to secure Zoning or Land Use approval.
- Ask About Storm Water Design – Some projects may require storm water management plans.
- Check for Additional Building Permits – Once Zoning approval is granted, confirm whether a Building Permit (often called a UCC Permit) is necessary.
- Submit Building Permit Applications – If required, file for your Building Permit with the appropriate agency.
- Share Permit Details With Us – Once permits are approved, send copies to Rocky Mountain Contractors along with any inspection schedules (if applicable).
Permit Process Tips:
- Zoning Permits Are Usually Straightforward – These permits are often low-cost and easy to obtain, as long as your project aligns with local zoning laws.
- Building Permits Often Involve Third Parties – These agencies may charge fees for reviewing plans and conducting inspections.
